Turkey vultures, also known as turkey buzzards, are the most widespread of the New World vultures, found from southern Canada to the southern tip of South America. Turkey vultures are scavengers, using their keen sense of smell to detect the first signs of decay. They typically fly by using thermals to move through the air, flapping their wings infrequently.
