A common white tern (Gygis alba) flies overhead against a bright sky on the island of Mitiaro in the Cook Islands. The white tern is also known as a fairy tern, angel tern, and white noody. Its Hawaiian name is manu-o-Kū. The white tern is found in tropical oceans around the world, foraging on the coast, but moving into wooded areas inland to breed.
