Sections near the slot canyon ceiling appear yellow and gold, while portions in deep shadow are purple. Violent flash floods sculpt the sandstone, leaving undulating, layered walls. The Navajo people call the canyon Tsé bighánílíní dóó Hazdistazí, which means "the place where water runs through rocks."
