The aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights, shine high into the sky over Mount Shuksan and are reflected in a tarn on Arist Ridge in the Mount Baker National Forest, Washington. Mount Shuksan was formed about 120 million years ago when two of Earth's plates collided and were thrust upward in an event known as the Easton collision.
